Shiloh Jolie-Pitt takes legal steps to drop 'Pitt' from her name
Daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt files petition to change surname
Move comes amid ongoing legal battle between parents
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has filed a petition to legally drop "Pitt" from her surname. The move comes amid an ongoing legal battle between her parents, who have been separated since 2016.
The petition was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by The Blast. Shiloh is asking the court to grant her a name change to "Shiloh Jolie," citing "personal reasons."
A source close to the family told The Blast that Shiloh's decision to change her name is not related to her relationship with her father. The source said that Shiloh has always been close to her mother and has taken on her mother's last name as a way to express her identity.
Jolie and Pitt have been locked in a bitter custody battle over their six children since their split. The couple has three biological children together: Shiloh, Zahara, and Knox. They also have three adopted children: Maddox, Pax, and Vivienne.
In 2018, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in 2019. Since then, the couple has been involved in a number of legal disputes, including over custody of their children.
It is unclear how Pitt will respond to Shiloh's petition to change her name. A hearing on the petition has been scheduled for February 23, 2023.
