WEB FORMULA 1 LENOVO CHINESE GRAND PRIX 2024: SPRINT QUALIFYING

WEB China delivers drama on F1 return

Unpredictability was expected in Shanghai as Formula 1 returned to China for the first time since 2019

McLaren's Lando Norris took pole position for Saturday's Formula 1 sprint at the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai in a wet and wild qualifying session.

The Briton edged out seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton by just 0.044 seconds, with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz completing the top three.

Norris's pole is his first of the 2024 season, and the fourth of his Formula 1 career.

The qualifying session was held in wet conditions, which made it difficult for drivers to find grip.

Several drivers spun off during the session, including Hamilton, who had a lucky escape when he crashed into the barriers at the final corner.

Norris, however, was able to keep his car on track and set a time that was good enough for pole position.

The Sprint race will take place on Saturday at 4pm local time, with the main race scheduled for Sunday at 3pm local time.
